In my lab, every sign comes from slowness, and every imperfection is necessary. Cose illustrate is like an archive of stories and memories bring to life through illustration and printmaking, engraved on a matrix, and in memory.
Printmaking
I do printmaking to impress stories and memories. Each print is born from the slowness of the time taken to create it, with no pressure except that of the printing press.
Illustration
When words are not enough, I use illustration to tell what cannot be said. Because sometimes a drawing says more than a thousand words, and it is also less noisy.
Animation
I create animations when the signs need to move again in time to tell stories. They don't always go where I expect them to, but that's part of the beauty of it.
Hi, my name is Federica Tumminello, I am a freelance illustrator and printmaker creating illustrations and linocut prints in Turin. Cose illustrate is my safe space for printing memories and stories on paper. I have adopted the Japanese philosophy of wabi-sabi: I like to think that what I create manages to evoke a sense of calm melancholy through the beauty of imperfection. Each linocut print is a unique work, made entirely by hand through a process of engraving on linoleum, inking, and printing by hand on high-quality paper. This technique gives each piece a distinctive character, with unique details and slight variations that make each print unrepeatable. The prints are produced in limited and numbered editions, perfect for those who want an illustration with textural appeal, a collectible graphic or an original gift. Customizations are also available upon request, for those seeking a custom-made work.
