Printmaking

Why printmaking

Printmaking nowadays in a high-tech, cutting-edge metropolis like Turin? Yes, I realise that I am a bit against the tide. But in a world running straight towards artificial intelligence and industrial production, I have decided to slow down and proudly carry on hand printing made with sweat, toil and ink. You might be wondering if some people actually choose to engrave, ink and print in a process that takes 4 hours to 10 days, instead of conveniently clicking a button (and hoping the printer doesn’t decide to go on strike at the last minute). The answer is yes. Because every print tells a story, brings with it time, care, attention, that material sense and human touch that no machine can ever replicate. Every print, even if replicated and mass-produced, remains unique and unrepeatable.

All prints on this page and in the shop are made in limited editions, numbered and signed. The papers used are Strathmore, Rosaspina or Fabriano Unica and the weight can vary from 120gr to 250gr. The inks are water-based, except in the case of printing on fabric, which is done with ink suitable for resisting washing (the colour may, nevertheless, lose consistency). The actual printing is done by hand with a spoon, a baren or a 3621 intaglio press. Available prints can be found on Etsy, but if you see something that intrigues you that is not in the shop, write to me. Do you have an idea buzzing around in your head and would like to see it realised? Contact me and let’s talk about it.
