Food is more than just nourishment: it is culture, colour and creativity.
And since I was hungry, instead of rushing to my favourite restaurant in Turin, I decided to draw sushi in pattern form (all-you-can-eat style): nigiri, maki and rolls took shape one after the other until the sheet turned into an illustrated sea of goodness.
No matter, because in the end I ate the sushi anyway. I created this pattern with watercolour pencils on semi-rough paper, maintaining the freshness and texture of the hand-drawn lines. No fish were harmed in the making. All the protagonists remained safe, transformed only into graphics ready to be applied to various creative solutions such as art prints, packaging, merchandise, editorial or digital projects.
This sushi can be applied anywhere, except on your hips, unless you want to tattoo it on, if you’re a die-hard fan of salmon and avocado rolls.
This sushi pattern is part of the food series, a subject of great interest to me (and I imagine to everyone). In the portfolio, you will find other illustrations that will make your mouth water and, if you are not careful about your diet, will make the scales cry. But after all, someone wiser than me once said, “One cannot think well, love well, sleep well, if one has not dined well”. That someone is Virginia Woolf.
Virgi, know that this is my philosophy of life.
